Don't Hate, Appreciate: Nicki Minaj!

If you haven’t heard one negative, and usually unfair, comment on Nicki Minaj, or her clothes or her music then you’re probably living under a rock - or you surround yourself with a lot of positivity.

A lot hate for Nicki comes from the way she represents herself as an artist and a person; society is in the bad habit of thinking that if you’re happy to show a lot of skin and use your body for pleasure then you’re a bad role model and undesirable. Yet this is not the case for males who do either or both of those things.

As a feminist, I am completely against those that hate on Nicki Minaj simply because they have essentially been brain-washed to believe that owning your sexuality and flaunting it to a certain degree, is a bad thing. It isn’t!

Minaj grew up with an alcoholic father, who once attempted to kill her mother by setting their house on fire, her family struggled financially, and she faced racial prejudice when she first to the U.S from Trinidad. Nicki has been facing obstacles since she was five years old, but that hasn’t stopped her from becoming one of the most well-known artists in the music industry.

Not only is Nicki incredibly successful but she’s also a game changer.

In an industry where the male population dominates time and time again, Nicki has shone through like a beacon of light and has inspired countless other young females to break the boundaries and follow their ambitions. Her single ‘Anaconda’ achieved more than 36 million views in a single day, breaking records. The album the single derived from ‘The Pink Print’ managed to top sales charts by debuting at number 2 and selling a total of 198,142 in the first week. ‘Roman Holiday’ the album that precedes ‘T.P.P’ debuted at number 1 on the U.S Billboard 200.

Tell me that’s not impressive.

Honestly, who cares if Nicki wears pink thongs and skimpy, racy sports bras? She’s young, in control of herself and just having fun.

We judge women for showing their more sensual side yet we praise men who parade women like objects in their music videos, it’s time for more females to take note from Nicki and proudly rock what they have without shame - because you really don’t having anything to be shameful of.
