One of the things I've learnt in my long seventeen years is the importance of motivation.
It really is the source to everything. Want to make a nice cup of tea? BUT you have no motivation, usually you'll end up just sitting there wishing someone will make you a cup.Or, you want to finish that long book that you've been meaning to get round for about 10 weeks, but instead you end up spending all of your time doing something totally unproductive.
Sometimes it's even worse than not having a cup of tea or finishing that book. Sometimes it's not posting something on your blog even though you promised yourself you would update an article every three weeks. Sometimes it's not being able to bring yourself to even edit your site to a standard that would please you and give you pride.
I suppose this is my way of explaining my absence, it's poor but completely relatable, right?
Everyone has struggled with the lack of motivation at some point in there lifetime, it's human nature and it sucks. However, it can be overcome. Yay!
The following are (4) tips on how to motivate yourself - things I've found to work quite well.
1. Planning out your day:
You can do this in my mind but I recommend writing it down because it's much more easier to keep track and ticking things off just gives you that satisfaction that can't be found anywhere else. That's not true to just me, is it? Use a notebook or your journal/diary or even the notes app on your phone, then you make a list of all the things that you want to do today or the things that have to be done. The best thing about this is that you're able to see every task that needs to be accomplished and then you can prioritise! Prioritisation is incredibly important. The sooner you learn to prioritise the sooner you will see success in your academic/work/etc life.
2. Don't think just do:
As someone who loves to think about everything and everyone and every scenario that could possibly happen, I understand how hard it can be to get round to actually just doing the task in the end. This means that I also know how thinking about something can make it more daunting and difficult than it actually is, so just don't think about it. It sounds simple enough but it can prove to be quite a challenging thing to do. But, like everything else it becomes much easier over time with a lot of practice.
3. Inspiration:
Seeing success around in the environment that you surround yourself in can prove to be very motivating. However, it is incredibly important to not be envious and just appreciate the success of the people around you instead. This can be achieved by reminding yourself that you aren't them and that's okay; you haven't had the same privileges, opportunities or journeys that they have had and you can't put yourself down for that. Try to learn from their success stories and apply it into your own life. P.S. The person you seek inspiration from doesn't always have to be famous or incredibly wealthy, they can be your best friend who sees the world as a challenge or your parents that work hard to keep you happy and healthy.
4. Appreciate yourself!
You may not be 17 and have a net worth of £19 million but that doesn't mean that you're not on the track to that phenomenal type of success - sure, it's incredibly unlikely but that doesn't mean it's not possible. And it also doesn't mean that you're not worth appreciating. Celebrate your successes! The homework that you managed to do within the day you got it? or tackling that run you were avoiding all day, even getting around to do 30 minutes of revision is something to be proud of. It means you're on the right path and it means you're being productive. Life is so much easier if you appreciate yourself.
These are just some tips to help you get to where you want to be...now get off this blog and do what you really want to do! Much love.
